Growing up in Alabama, we had Popeye’s Chicken. About buttermilk, while it may not be part of the Popeye’s recipe, soaking chicken in buttermilk provides some flavor and moisture. When I was a little girl (think decades ago) my grandparent’s cook soaked her chicken overnight in buttermilk and it was wonderful.
